This compass clearly displays directions in Japanese. In addition to the cardinal directions, it shows 16-point directions based on the orientation of your device. This app was featured in episode 4 of the Nippon TV drama "Tokyo Tarareba Girls". It also appears in a theatrical film. For details, please check the link within the app. It can also be used as a compass to determine the direction for eating Eho-maki during Setsubun. Displays directions such as "north-northwest", "east-northeast", "south-southeast", and "west-southwest" in Japanese. Setsubun in 2026 will be on February 3rd, and the lucky direction is south-southeast. It is useful as an Eho-maki compass for Setsubun. We resolved the issue where the app could be installed on devices without a magnetic sensor. *The compass operates using a magnetic sensor and will not function on devices without one. We added a feature that detects environments where the compass may be inaccurate and provides solutions. Features were added to hide banner ads and to use the app offline in places like mountains and oceans. Please give it a try.

With “Compass Pro” you can orientate yourself optimally at your location. You can see the direction of the compass and match it with the satellite image or the map on the compass. That you know exactly where you are you get the street address, the exact GPS coordinates and the current height above sea level displayed. In addition, the position is displayed in What3Words (w3w) coordinates. To switch between satellite image and map view just tap the compass. You can zoom with the pinch-/spread Gesture or with the slider beneath the Address so that you can orient yourself at certain prominent points. The blue highlighted area indicates the current accuracy. Terms of Use : https://www.apple.com/legal/internet-services/itunes/dev/stdeula/

Verdict
The clearest difference is in-app purchases: Compass at none against Compass's 4. Compass also leads on rating (5.0 vs 4.7) and update cadence (every 2 months vs every 7 months). Compass's advantage is ads (none vs shown) and ratings volume (2.3K vs 4). On price, device support and iOS requirement there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Compass sells 4 in-app purchases, starting at $0.99 per month. Compass asks for nothing beyond the download.
Compass holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 4.7. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Compass has 2.3K ratings behind it against 4, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 50% of Compass's written reviews are positive against 67% of Compass's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.
Compass ships an update every 2 months, Compass every 7 months. Both last shipped on October 2, 2026.
