Verdict
The clearest difference is rating: Google Meet at 4.8 against FaceTime's 4.2. Google Meet also leads on update cadence (weekly vs every 6 months) and ratings volume (2.3M vs 27K). FaceTime's advantage is monetization model (free vs freemium) and iOS requirement (10.0 vs 18.0). On price, review sentiment, ads and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.
Google Meet holds the better App Store score, 4.8 against 4.2. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Google Meet has 2.3M ratings behind it against 27K, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews point the same way: 46% of Google Meet's written reviews are positive against 40% of FaceTime's.
Google Meet ships an update weekly, FaceTime every 6 months. Both last shipped on October 14, 2026.
