Verdict

The call

The clearest difference is rating: Diveplanner Tec & Rec at 3.1 against Dive Check's 1.0. Diveplanner Tec & Rec also leads on monetization model (free vs free with in-app purchases) and ratings volume (7 vs 2). Dive Check's advantage is update cadence (every 4 days vs every 3 months) and review sentiment (50% vs 33%). On price, ads, in-app purchases and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Dive Check sells 1 one-off in-app purchase and Diveplanner Tec & Rec sells 3 one-off in-app purchases. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

ReceptionRating · Positive reviews · Number of ratings

Diveplanner Tec & Rec holds the better App Store score, 3.1 against 1.0. Both are backed by a comparable volume of ratings — 2 and 7 respectively. Written reviews complicate that: 50% of Dive Check's written reviews are positive against 33% of Diveplanner Tec & Rec's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

UpkeepUpdate frequency

Dive Check ships an update every 4 days, Diveplanner Tec & Rec every 3 months. The most recent releases landed on September 27, 2026 and October 16, 2026 respectively.
