Want to play something quick and fun with friends when you party? 5 Second is a party game for groups, for those who can act under pressure. Rules are pretty straightforward. Players are asked a simple question and they have 5 seconds to come up with 3 answers before the buzzer rings. If the player doesn’t give all the answers before the time runs out, you do the punishment. Can you name 3 types of screams in 5 seconds? Can you name 3 hairy things in 5 seconds? Can you name 3 brands of beer in 5 seconds? The game includes normal cards, and also you can turn on sexy cards if you want to get your house party to the next level. Verdict
The clearest difference is in-app purchases: BuzzMeIn at none against 5 Second Rule's 1. BuzzMeIn also leads on review sentiment (60% vs 45%) and iOS requirement (13.0 vs 15.0). 5 Second Rule's advantage is update cadence (every 3 weeks vs every 46 months) and ratings volume (10K vs 21). On price, rating, ads and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. 5 Second Rule sells 1 in-app purchase, starting at $9.99 per 7 days. BuzzMeIn asks for nothing beyond the download.
5 Second Rule holds the better App Store score, 4.7 against 4.5. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: 5 Second Rule has 10K ratings behind it against 21, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 60% of BuzzMeIn's written reviews are positive against 45% of 5 Second Rule's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.
BuzzMeIn ships an update every 46 months, 5 Second Rule every 3 weeks. The most recent releases landed on October 7, 2026 and October 22, 2026 respectively.
