Verdict
The clearest difference is ads: Speech Central at none against Text to Voice's shown. Speech Central also leads on update cadence (weekly vs every 5 months) and ratings volume (1.6K vs 11). Text to Voice's advantage is rating (5.0 vs 4.6) and iOS requirement (15.5 vs 17.0). On price, in-app purchases, monetization model and device support there is nothing between them.
Scored on Price · Rating · Positive reviews · Number of ratings · Update frequency · Ads · In-app purchases · Monetization · Best chart rank · Devices · Requires iOS
Both are free to download. Speech Central sells 1 one-off in-app purchase and Text to Voice sells 1 one-off in-app purchase. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.
Text to Voice holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 4.6. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Speech Central has 1.6K ratings behind it against 11, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 70% of Speech Central's written reviews are positive against 50% of Text to Voice's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.
Speech Central ships an update weekly, Text to Voice every 5 months. The most recent releases landed on September 19, 2026 and August 31, 2026 respectively.
