Verdict
The clearest difference is rating: Basic Web Browser at 3.7 against Web Recorder's 3.0. Basic Web Browser also leads on update cadence (monthly vs every 2 months). Web Recorder's advantage is in-app purchases (none vs 10) and ads (none vs shown). On price and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Basic Web Browser sells 10 in-app purchases, starting at $0.99 per month. Web Recorder asks for nothing beyond the download.
Basic Web Browser holds the better App Store score, 3.7 against 3.0. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Web Recorder has 1.2K ratings behind it against 7, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 31% of Web Recorder's written reviews are positive against 0% of Basic Web Browser's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.
Web Recorder ships an update every 2 months, Basic Web Browser monthly. The most recent releases landed on October 9, 2026 and September 29, 2026 respectively.
