Verdict
The clearest difference is ads: The Editor Cryptograms at none against Cryptograms's shown. The Editor Cryptograms also leads on review sentiment (87% vs 73%) and ratings volume (445 vs 67). Cryptograms's advantage is update cadence (daily vs every 17 months) and rating (4.6 vs 4.2). On price, in-app purchases, monetization model and device support there is nothing between them.
Scored on Price · Rating · Positive reviews · Number of ratings · Update frequency · Ads · In-app purchases · Monetization · Best chart rank · Devices · Requires iOS
Both are free to download. The Editor Cryptograms sells 10 one-off in-app purchases and Cryptograms sells 3 one-off in-app purchases. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.
Cryptograms holds the better App Store score, 4.6 against 4.2. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: The Editor Cryptograms has 445 ratings behind it against 67, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 87% of The Editor Cryptograms's written reviews are positive against 73% of Cryptograms's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.
The Editor Cryptograms ships an update every 17 months, Cryptograms daily. The most recent releases landed on September 30, 2026 and October 6, 2026 respectively.
