Verdict
The clearest difference is in-app purchases: PrefixPlus at none against Simply Filter SMS's 3. PrefixPlus also leads on rating (4.7 vs 4.4) and ratings volume (1.1K vs 69). Simply Filter SMS's advantage is ads (none vs shown) and update cadence (every 9 days vs every 2 months). On price and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Simply Filter SMS sells 3 one-off in-app purchases. PrefixPlus asks for nothing beyond the download.
PrefixPlus holds the better App Store score, 4.7 against 4.4. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: PrefixPlus has 1.1K ratings behind it against 69, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 72% of PrefixPlus's written reviews are positive against 81% of Simply Filter SMS's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.
PrefixPlus ships an update every 2 months, Simply Filter SMS every 9 days. The most recent releases landed on October 24, 2026 and October 30, 2026 respectively.
