Verdict

The call

The clearest difference is rating: Crypton at 4.7 against Compress's 4.3. Crypton also leads on ratings volume (183 vs 6). Compress's advantage is update cadence (every 2 weeks vs every 5 weeks) and review sentiment (100% vs 84%). On price, ads, in-app purchases and monetization model there is nothing between them.

ReceptionRating · Positive reviews · Number of ratings

Crypton holds the better App Store score, 4.7 against 4.3. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Crypton has 183 ratings behind it against 6, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 84% of Crypton's written reviews are positive against 100% of Compress's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

UpkeepUpdate frequency

Crypton ships an update every 5 weeks, Compress every 2 weeks. The most recent releases landed on October 12, 2026 and October 8, 2026 respectively.
