Basic prerequisites are a thorough knowledge of chemical and physical properties of pure components and mixtures, of reactions, and of mathematical models which, in combination, allow the calculation of a process in a computing device. Process simulation software describes processes in flow diagrams where unit operations are positioned and connected by product or educt streams. The software has to solve the mass and energy balance to find a stable operating point. The goal of a process simulation is to find optimal conditions for a process.

Volume in Pipe (V.i.P.) is a simple, efficient tool for estimating the gas volume contained in a pipe, pig launcher/receiver, or vessel. Enter basic operating conditions, select a pipe size, and the app provides an approximate volume based on general assumptions. This tool is intended for quick field estimates only. It does not incorporate detailed gas analysis, which may significantly affect calculated volumes.

Verdict

The call

The clearest difference is in-app purchases: Volume in Pipe at none against DWSIM Simulator's 10. Volume in Pipe also leads on rating (5.0 vs 4.6). DWSIM Simulator's advantage is update cadence (every 6 weeks vs every 26 months) and ratings volume (105 vs 1). On price, ads and monetization model there is nothing between them.
