This is the story about how young people in South Auckland in New Zealand are beating Rheumatic Fever. Told in their 'beat'. The app was created at a 2-day workshop in August 2016. A group of talented local students came together to design, write, illustrate and record a poem about how to prevent the spread of rheumatic fever in their community. “We worked together as a group to make a poem to persuade people to see a doctor and get your sore throat sorted out or you could get rheumatic (beat) fever and heart damage. So if you have a sore and scratchy throat, do you want to be coughing about, do you want a throat red and sore, if you don’t well then LISTEN UP.” Mercedez, Rachel, Sisilia , Esther, Deja, Jazz and Praise Our awesome poem is based upon the idea of “How do Whānau Support Rheumatic Fever? (the impact it has on them)”. It is about a boy who has rheumatic fever and is sadly at the hospital where his family are encouraging him to get better and help him ‘battle’ this fever so that he can be better. Ethan, Bailey, Shaun and Mikaele “Rheumatic fever is a disease caused by strep throat from bacteria called streptococcal pharyngitis. Rheumatic fever can spread by not getting treated right” Denzael, Leilani, Christine, Raphael and Salarina “So we started by learning what Rheumatic fever is and then each of us wrote a poem each. Next we added the main components of each poem and turned it into one. After that we came up with scenes for our animation. And further on we let Munro turn it all into a app. Thanks For Reading And We As A Team Hope You Learned Something New.” Pratik, Joshua, Talei and Mohokoi FEATURES * Swipe-to-Read™ * All words in te reo Māori are Touch-to-Hear™ * All words in te reo Māori are Touch-to-Spell™ * Read-to-me and read-it-myself options Customise the book: * record your narration This digital book contains narration in English, Te Reo Māori and Samoan languages. Download Gulangyu and join our heroine, Xiao Rui, and her friends Na Na the parrot and Henry the baby dragon on a magical, musical adventure to learn about conservation and save the planet. The eight chapter book tells the story of how children can make a difference in the quest to save the planet through reducing, reusing, and recycling. This is the seventh educational app from the award-winning company Happy Diamond Music Studio. The app aims to teach children ages 4+ about conservation while providing them the tools to make a difference in the real world. The story features six original songs by renowned composer, Shirley Choi. When Xiao Rui discovers that her home, Gulangyu (an island off the coast of southeastern China and a UNESCO Heritage Site) is in danger from a gigantic wave that has been caused by global climate change, she is tasked by Riyanshi, the Earth Fairy to undertake an epic journey to stop the wave and learn how she and other children can stop global warming from destroying the planet. In the 80-minute story, Xiao Rui and her companions travel to the Amazon rainforest, icebergs in Greenland, solar farms floating in the lake that used to be a coal mine, and landfills where scientists perform research where they see the effects of climate change up-close and personal. Featuring beautiful original artwork, music your kids will want to sing along to, and a bilingual story (English and Chinese) - Gulangyu is a great opportunity for parents and teachers to start a conversation with even their youngest learners about their own carbon footprint and how they can impact stopping climate change. Conservation has never been as important as it is now, so download Gulangyu today and help kids understand how they can start saving the planet.
