Dumpling Garden Practical Math
Read full descriptionHide full description
A tiny village of animal friends is hungry, and running it takes real math. Dumpling Garden looks like a cozy farming-and-cooking game: plant seeds, steam squishy buns, run a market stall, build little houses. Underneath, every one of those chores is a genuine grade 3-5 math problem. Seeds go into the ground as multiplication arrays you can count. Steamer trays fill up in fractions. The market bill needs totalling, and the change needs counting back coin by coin. A house plan's width and height become a build order - perimeter for the planks, area for the roof tiles, division (rounded up!) for the paint. The village grows as the math gets done. Cooking a villager's favourite dish earns coins; coins buy blueprints and lumber; a finished house means a new friend moves in, joins the market queue, and starts posting orders of their own. Fifteen skills, five difficulty rungs each: the game climbs when your child is on a streak and quietly steps back down after a rough patch, so it stays just-hard-enough by itself. And mistakes? A wrong answer earns a sympathetic head-tilt from a little sprout, a hint that shows the problem a second way, and another try. There are no timers on thinking, no lives, no failure screens - this is a village, not an exam. What's NOT in the game matters as much as what is: no ads, no purchases, no account, no internet connection, and no data leaving the iPad. Sibling profiles keep two villages separate, and anything sensitive hides behind a question only grown-up arithmetic can answer. Every feature in this game was playtested by one very opinionated eight-year-old, and the best ones were her idea.
