Verdict
The clearest difference is rating: Step Counter Widget at 4.5 against Steps for Watch's 3.6. Step Counter Widget also leads on ratings volume (301 vs 20) and update cadence (every 3 months vs every 7 months). Steps for Watch's advantage is in-app purchases (none vs 1) and ads (none vs shown). On price, device support and iOS requirement there is nothing between them.
Scored on Price · Rating · Positive reviews · Number of ratings · Update frequency · Ads · In-app purchases · Monetization · Best chart rank · Devices · Requires iOS
Both are free to download. Step Counter Widget sells 1 in-app purchase, starting at $1.99 per month. Steps for Watch asks for nothing beyond the download.
Step Counter Widget holds the better App Store score, 4.5 against 3.6. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Step Counter Widget has 301 ratings behind it against 20, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 60% of Step Counter Widget's written reviews are positive against 75% of Steps for Watch's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.
Step Counter Widget ships an update every 3 months, Steps for Watch every 7 months. The most recent releases landed on October 29, 2026 and October 24, 2026 respectively.
