MIDI has been used to control synthesizers and sequencers for years. It's easy to use, and there are hundreds of inexpensive controllers. With MIDI Camera, Secret Base Design brings MIDI to iOS photography. Use a MIDI controller, foot pedal, or an app, to take photographs or record video. MIDI signals can be sent wirelessly, using either WiFi or Bluetooth, or using adapters with a camera connection kit. The precise timing available with MIDI makes it easy to synchronize multiple cameras, or to take carefully spaced photos for time lapse photography. Triggering camera photos and videos electronically can make stop-motion animation easier!

FieldKit is a focused, no-nonsense field recorder built for sound designers, foley artists, ambient musicians, and anyone who needs to capture the world in high fidelity. RECORD IN STUDIO QUALITY Capture 24-bit, 48kHz WAV audio with real-time waveform monitoring. Adjust input gain, apply a low-cut filter to tame wind and handling noise, and monitor your input live — all before you hit record. SEE THE SOUND Watch a real-time spectrogram as you record, so you can spot frequency content the waveform alone won't show you. Perfect for catching hums, resonances, and details you'd otherwise only notice on playback. STAY ORGANIZED Every recording can be automatically geotagged, so you always know where a sound was captured. Tag recordings by type, add timestamped markers while recording or editing, and search your entire library instantly. EDIT WITHOUT LEAVING THE APP Trim recordings non-destructively, drop markers to bookmark key moments, normalize levels, adjust gain with one-tap undo, and automatically detect and strip silence — all without needing a separate editor. EXPORT YOUR WAY Export to WAV, AIFF, M4A, or FLAC with embedded metadata (title, location, tags, markers). Split a recording into separate files at your markers, or batch export your whole library at once. BUILT FOR EXTERNAL MICS FieldKit supports external microphones and includes a screen-flip mode for rigs where your phone ends up mounted upside-down. PRIVACY FIRST All processing happens on your device. FieldKit doesn't collect any data, doesn't use analytics or tracking, and doesn't require an account. Your recordings never leave your phone unless you export them yourself. FieldKit Pro is a one-time purchase — not a subscription — and unlocks: • Unlimited recordings • Real-time spectrogram view • Unlimited tags • Batch export • Export as slices • Normalize & gain tools • Silence detection & auto-crop Everything else is free, forever.

Verdict
The clearest difference is price: FieldKit Pro at Free against MIDI Camera's $0.99. MIDI Camera's advantage is in-app purchases (none vs 1) and ratings volume (5 vs 1). On rating, review sentiment and ads there is nothing between them.

On the App Store both sit at effectively the same score — 5.0 for MIDI Camera against 5.0 for FieldKit Pro. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: MIDI Camera has 5 ratings behind it against 1, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews split almost evenly too, at 100% and 100% positive.
