This compass allows you to instantly switch between Japanese directions ("東西南北") and English abbreviations ("NESW") with a single tap. It not only shows directions but also functions as a level gauge, altimeter, latitude/longitude display, and smartphone tilt indicator. The compass supports 16 directional points and displays both cardinal names and precise angles in degrees (0–360°). You can switch the language between Japanese and English via the menu. In addition to vertical and horizontal leveling, the app graphically displays the phone's tilt using four gyro indicators. You can choose between two design styles: a mechanical "Gray Metallic" or a classic "Black". These can be changed from the settings menu. It also serves as an "Eho‑maki Compass" for Setsubun, helping you find the lucky direction to eat your Eho-maki. The directions "North-northwest", "Northeast by east", "South-southeast", and "Southwest by west" are available in Japanese. In 2026, Setsubun falls on February 3rd. The lucky direction for Eho-maki is South-southeast. Use this app to easily find that direction and enjoy your Setsubun traditions! We've resolved an issue where the app could be installed on devices lacking a magnetic sensor. ※Please note: the compass function requires a magnetic sensor and may not work properly on unsupported devices. We also added a new feature that detects environments where compass readings are unstable and provides troubleshooting guidance. Additional features include the ability to hide banner ads and use the app offline, perfect for use in the mountains or by the sea. Give it a try

BackHere marks the places you need to return to — where you parked, your hotel, the tour meeting point, the station exit, a restaurant worth a second visit — then walks you back. A map helps you find where you are going. BackHere helps you remember where you came from. SAVE A SPOT IN ONE TAP Open the app, press the big button. Your parking location is pinned with the time, nothing to type. Name it later if you want. WALK BACK THE RIGHT WAY An arrow always points at the saved spot, with distance left and walking minutes. Deep in a parking garage or in an unfamiliar city, the arrow still points correctly — it uses the phone compass, not turn-by-turn routing. WORKS WITHOUT INTERNET Every place stays on your phone. No account, no sign-in, your location is never sent anywhere. Abroad with no SIM, underground with no signal — it still guides you back. A PHOTO GETS YOU THE LAST 10 METRES GPS gets you close; a photo gets you exactly there. Snap the pillar marked B2-C17, the hotel entrance, the floor number — on the way back you just look at the picture. Photos stay on the device, nothing is uploaded. PLACES THAT EXPIRE Today's parking spot does not need to be kept until next year. Choose "keep for 1 hour / 7 days / forever"; when it expires the place moves to your archive instead of disappearing. SEND A LOCATION Share a meeting point over messages or any chat app. The other person does not need BackHere installed — the link opens in any browser. ALSO • Categories: car, home, hotel, restaurant, favourite • Per-place notes: "level B2, pillar C17" • Standard and satellite maps • Metres or feet and miles • Light and dark themes • English, Vietnamese and Japanese GOOD FOR Finding your car at the mall or the airport, locating a motorbike in a parking garage, remembering your hotel while travelling abroad, tour group meeting points, subway station exits, campsites, fishing spots, restaurants worth returning to, customer addresses on a delivery round. FREE AND PRO The free version saves 5 places, forever, with no ads. Pro unlocks unlimited saved places and lets you attach photos to each one. Pro is a single payment — no monthly renewal.

Verdict
The clearest difference is in-app purchases: FULL COMPASS at none against BackHere's 1. FULL COMPASS also leads on iOS requirement (12.0 vs 15.1). BackHere's advantage is ads (none vs shown). On price and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. BackHere sells 1 one-off in-app purchase. FULL COMPASS asks for nothing beyond the download.
