Verdict
The clearest difference is price: Luminosys at Free against Plant Light Meter's $2.99. Luminosys also leads on review sentiment (75% vs 39%). Plant Light Meter's advantage is ads (none vs shown) and update cadence (fortnightly vs every 19 months). On in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

Luminosys is free to download; Plant Light Meter costs $2.99 up front. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.
Plant Light Meter holds the better App Store score, 4.6 against 4.3. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Plant Light Meter has 1.1K ratings behind it against 10, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 39% of Plant Light Meter's written reviews are positive against 75% of Luminosys's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.
Plant Light Meter ships an update fortnightly, Luminosys every 19 months. The most recent releases landed on November 2, 2026 and November 4, 2026 respectively.
