Verdict
The clearest difference is rating: ACVIM at 4.4 against VetPrep's 3.3. ACVIM also leads on in-app purchases (none vs 1) and ratings volume (140 vs 29). VetPrep's advantage is review sentiment (46% vs 25%) and update cadence (every 4 months vs every 12 months). On price, ads, device support and iOS requirement there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. VetPrep sells 1 one-off in-app purchase. ACVIM asks for nothing beyond the download.
ACVIM holds the better App Store score, 4.4 against 3.3. Both are backed by a comparable volume of ratings — 29 and 140 respectively. Written reviews complicate that: 46% of VetPrep's written reviews are positive against 25% of ACVIM's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.
VetPrep ships an update every 4 months, ACVIM every 12 months. The most recent releases landed on October 2, 2026 and September 28, 2026 respectively.
