Verdict
The clearest difference is ads: AR Magic Gun at none against Lie Detector Test's shown. AR Magic Gun also leads on review sentiment (71% vs 36%) and update cadence (fortnightly vs every 42 months). Lie Detector Test's advantage is rating (3.4 vs 3.0) and ratings volume (1.6K vs 34). On price, in-app purchases and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.
Lie Detector Test holds the better App Store score, 3.4 against 3.0. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Lie Detector Test has 1.6K ratings behind it against 34, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 36% of Lie Detector Test's written reviews are positive against 71% of AR Magic Gun's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.
Lie Detector Test ships an update every 42 months, AR Magic Gun fortnightly. The most recent releases landed on October 21, 2026 and October 1, 2026 respectively.
