Verdict
The clearest difference is in-app purchases: Light a Way at none against Hero's Quest's 10. Light a Way also leads on review sentiment (80% vs 66%) and iOS requirement (12.0 vs 15.0). Hero's Quest's advantage is update cadence (fortnightly vs monthly). On price, rating, ratings volume and ads there is nothing between them.
Scored on Price · Rating · Positive reviews · Number of ratings · Update frequency · Ads · In-app purchases · Monetization · Best chart rank · Devices · Requires iOS
Both are free to download. Hero's Quest sells 10 one-off in-app purchases. Light a Way asks for nothing beyond the download.
Hero's Quest holds the better App Store score, 4.8 against 4.6. Both are backed by a comparable volume of ratings — 2K and 1.3K respectively. Written reviews complicate that: 80% of Light a Way's written reviews are positive against 66% of Hero's Quest's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.
Light a Way ships an update monthly, Hero's Quest fortnightly. The most recent releases landed on November 2, 2026 and November 3, 2026 respectively.
