Verdict
The clearest difference is review sentiment: ReadNow at 81% against ReadAnywhere's 16%. ReadAnywhere's advantage is in-app purchases (none vs 10) and rating (4.6 vs 4.2). On price, update cadence, ads and chart position there is nothing between them.
Scored on Price · Rating · Positive reviews · Number of ratings · Update frequency · Ads · In-app purchases · Monetization · Best chart rank · Devices · Requires iOS
Both are free to download. ReadNow sells 10 in-app purchases, starting at $9.99 per month. ReadAnywhere asks for nothing beyond the download.
ReadAnywhere holds the better App Store score, 4.6 against 4.2. Both are backed by a comparable volume of ratings — 10K and 3K respectively. Written reviews complicate that: 16% of ReadAnywhere's written reviews are positive against 81% of ReadNow's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.
ReadAnywhere ships an update every 6 weeks, ReadNow monthly. Both last shipped on November 7, 2026.
