Eclipse Run lets you pick the best spot for you to experience—live and in person!—Available in two languages (English and Spanish) it covers the eclipse of August 12th 2026 (From Iceland to Spain), and with Plan Ahead you get a bonus eclipse, that of August 2nd 2027. This app shows maps marking the zone where you can see the total eclipse. In the middle of the zone, is the line of maximum totality (over 2 minutes, depending on the location) The app now gives you the approximate duration of the eclipse at all spots within the zone of totality. The maximum totality for the bonus eclipse is over 6 minutes. You just hold your finger on various spots at intersections between this line of maximum totality and a road. A dot appears. Next, by tapping on that dot, you can learn what the weather will be like at your desired location. Plus you’ll get detailed driving instructions via Maps. On your journey, Eclipse Run gives you alerts when you enter the zone of totality, and when you cross the line of maximum totality. It’s easy to understand. It will help you experience this miracle of nature—totally! The Plan Ahead feature, will give you even more information, such as historical average cloud cover and more!

Find a good mushroom spot and you'll want it again next season — Mycel makes sure you never lose it. It's the foraging journal that pins every find on the map, tracks every outing, and reads the season from the real weather where you forage, so you know what's coming up and the best day to head out. Set it up for whatever you gather: mushrooms, berries, wild herbs, asparagus, or your own custom species. LEGAL — Mycel is a tracker, not an identifier. The app does not identify species from photos and does not provide guidance on consumption. Always verify with a local expert before any consumption. Some look-alikes are deadly. WHAT IT DOES • Season prediction: it crosses the recent weather in your area (WeatherKit + AEMET) with each species' pattern to suggest what to look for and the best day to head out. Tuned for mushrooms; for fruits and plants, a per-species seasonal calendar. • Foraging Mode: pin up to 3 species and one tap on the Lock Screen or Dynamic Island logs a find with your location. Without taking the phone out of your pocket. • When to go, zone by zone (Pro): Mycel checks the weather in the background and lets you know when a good day is coming up in one of your zones, based on rain and temperature. The “When to go” widget shows it on your Home Screen. • Offline spot map (OpenStreetMap) with your finds as colour-coded pins by category. Works with no signal deep in the woods. • Outing journal: every session keeps your track, finds and notes; group your places into zones and see what you found there. • A year ago, around this date: Home reminds you what you logged around these same dates in past years. And share your season as an image — no map, no locations. • 78 reference pages in 34 languages with description, habitat, season and look-alikes. 12 toxic species with explicit medical warnings (Amanita phalloides, Cortinarius rubellus, Lepiota brunneoincarnata…). • Custom species and categories: add whatever you forage where you live, even if it's not in the catalogue. • Apple Visual Look Up: Apple's system — not Mycel — can suggest species from your photos. • Apple Watch: active sessions show up on their own in the Smart Stack. PRIVACY • Your finds in your private iCloud, end-to-end encrypted across your iPhone and iPad. Or fully local-only if you prefer. • Zero analytics, zero third-party SDKs, zero tracking. Privacy nutrition: "Data Not Collected". • Photos never leave your library; Mycel only stores Apple's internal photo reference. PLANS • Free: 10 full foraging sessions, the map and the full reference, no expiry. (Predictions and bulk photo import are Pro.) • Lifetime $39.99 one-time: everything unlocked for good, no subscription. Includes every future backend feature (web heatmap, cross-device sync, etc.). • Annual $14.99/year with a 1-week free trial. • Monthly $1.99/mo. Cancel anytime. Mycel is built for Iberian foragers, but the catalogue covers most of European foraging. Coming soon: regional packs (Pyrenees, Galicia, Alps) and professional translation review for German / Italian / French. Verdict
The clearest difference is rating: Mycel at 5.0 against Eclipse Run's 3.9. Eclipse Run's advantage is ratings volume (12 vs 1) and iOS requirement (16.6 vs 26.0). On price, update cadence, ads and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Eclipse Run sells 1 one-off in-app purchase and Mycel sells 3 in-app purchases, starting at $1.99 per month. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.
Mycel holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 3.9. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Eclipse Run has 12 ratings behind it against 1, so its average is the more settled of the two.
Eclipse Run ships an update every 6 weeks, Mycel monthly. The most recent releases landed on September 17, 2026 and September 27, 2026 respectively.
