Verdict
The clearest difference is in-app purchases: Calmo at none against AddNotes's 2. Calmo also leads on rating (5.0 vs 4.8) and iOS requirement (14.0 vs 17.0). AddNotes's advantage is ratings volume (372 vs 3) and update cadence (every 10 days vs every 3 weeks). On price, ads, monetization model and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. AddNotes sells 2 in-app purchases, starting at $2.99 per month. Calmo asks for nothing beyond the download.
Calmo holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 4.8. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: AddNotes has 372 ratings behind it against 3, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 87% of AddNotes's written reviews are positive against 75% of Calmo's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.
AddNotes ships an update every 10 days, Calmo every 3 weeks. The most recent releases landed on October 29, 2026 and October 6, 2026 respectively.
