Verdict
The clearest difference is rating: Luwi at 3.4 against Scales's 1.0. Luwi also leads on update cadence (every 10 days vs every 4 months) and ratings volume (5 vs 1). Scales's advantage is in-app purchases (none vs 1) and iOS requirement (10.0 vs 15.0). On price, ads, monetization model and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Luwi sells 1 one-off in-app purchase. Scales asks for nothing beyond the download.
Luwi holds the better App Store score, 3.4 against 1.0. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Luwi has 5 ratings behind it against 1, so its average is the more settled of the two.
Scales ships an update every 4 months, Luwi every 10 days. Both last shipped on October 24, 2026.
