Backyard Apollo AR holds the better App Store score, 4.7 against 4.5. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Backyard Apollo AR has 1.5K ratings behind it against 4, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 71% of Backyard Apollo AR's written reviews are positive against 100% of Makebox AR's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.
Backyard Apollo AR ships an update every 7 months, Makebox AR every 3 weeks. The most recent releases landed on September 30, 2026 and June 1, 2026 respectively.
