Verdict

The call

The clearest difference is rating: Lost In Space at 4.4 against Retro Commander's 3.8. Lost In Space also leads on update cadence (every 3 days vs every 2 months) and ratings volume (872 vs 16). Retro Commander's advantage is ads (none vs shown) and monetization model (free vs free with in-app purchases). On price, in-app purchases and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Retro Commander sells 10 one-off in-app purchases and Lost In Space sells 10 one-off in-app purchases. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

ReceptionRating · Positive reviews · Number of ratings

Lost In Space holds the better App Store score, 4.4 against 3.8. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Lost In Space has 872 ratings behind it against 16, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 81% of Retro Commander's written reviews are positive against 71% of Lost In Space's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

UpkeepUpdate frequency

Retro Commander ships an update every 2 months, Lost In Space every 3 days. The most recent releases landed on November 3, 2026 and November 2, 2026 respectively.
