Verdict

The call

The clearest difference is review sentiment: tiReader at 67% against Books Reader's 38%. tiReader also leads on ratings volume (649 vs 22) and iOS requirement (12.0 vs 15.6). Books Reader's advantage is rating (4.7 vs 4.5). On price, update cadence, ads and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

CostPrice · In-app purchases · Ads · Monetization

Both are free to download. tiReader sells 4 one-off in-app purchases and Books Reader sells 9 in-app purchases, starting at $1.99 per month. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

ReceptionRating · Positive reviews · Number of ratings

Books Reader holds the better App Store score, 4.7 against 4.5. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: tiReader has 649 ratings behind it against 22, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 67% of tiReader's written reviews are positive against 38% of Books Reader's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

UpkeepUpdate frequency

tiReader ships an update every 6 weeks, Books Reader every 3 months. The most recent releases landed on October 22, 2026 and October 24, 2026 respectively.
