Backside Attack is an educational app targeting students learning organic chemistry for the first time. The game focuses on the SN2 reaction, which is often one of the first reactions students learn when studying organic chemistry. The SN2 reaction is great for educational purposes, as it provides a forum for students to learn about many common variables associated with chemical reactions, such as leaving group ability, nucleophilicity, steric factors, and solvent effects. The Backside Attack project is led by Dr. Neil Garg, an organic chemistry Professor at UCLA. He and six UCLA students (now alumni) devoted countless hours to creating the game flow and all content. The heroic students are: Tara Kappel, Preeya Mehta, William Parsons Stefan Prisacaru, Ernst Schmid, and Justin Soffer. Backside Attack is powered by Element26, Inc., thanks to Dr. Daniel D. Caspi. Students, be sure to: Learn even more and earn points by using the Check Yourself +50 feature on the scoring screen! Unlock the Chem Yourself feature by completing each topic!

Master organic chemistry reactions with a structured tutor built for Organic Chemistry I and II. Learn how reactants, reagents and conditions lead to products; connect mechanisms with regiochemistry and stereochemistry; then reinforce every topic with guided lessons, mastery checks and targeted practice. Explore 2,164 curated reactions covering the major transformations taught across a two-semester organic chemistry course. START FREE Begin with Alkanes and Free Radical Halogenation at no cost. A single in-app purchase unlocks the complete reaction library and all remaining course content. No subscription. FOLLOW A TWO-SEMESTER COURSE PATH Study Organic Chemistry I and II in a logical sequence instead of memorizing disconnected reactions. Each topic follows three stages: • Understand - Guided lessons explain what changes, why the reaction works, which selectivity rules matter and which common mistakes to avoid. • Master - Complete a focused 10-question mastery check. • Practice - Build fluency with a larger bank of reaction questions. Semester I, Semester II and comprehensive review modules help you connect reaction families and prepare for exams. EXPLORE 2,164 ORGANIC REACTIONS Browse by functional group or reaction family. Review reactants, reagents, products, reaction conditions, selectivity, stereochemistry, mechanism information and detailed reagent notes. STUDY YOUR WAY • Flashcards - Practice reactants, reagents, products or a random mix. • Multiple-choice quizzes - Test reaction recognition and product prediction. • Explore Reactions - Use the library as an offline organic chemistry reference. • Custom drills - Combine functional groups for focused review. • Study packs - Work through curated reaction sets with progressive challenges. • High scores and trophies - Track performance and earn bronze, silver, gold and platinum achievements.
