The app for the exhibition ‘Beyond Compare: Art from Africa in the Bode Museum’ Until the opening of the Humboldt Forum the exhibition ‘Beyond Compare: Art from Africa in the Bode Museum’ shows outstanding African works of art from the Ethnological Museum together with unique works taken from the European Sculpture Collection. Experimental juxtapositions and groupings of objects according to themes such power, death, beauty, identity, justice, and memory reveal their connections and differences. This multimedia app is the ideal companion for a visit to the exhibition. The most important functions at a glance: • A variety of tours through the exhibition • Short text and audio commentary from the curators on each object pairing • In-depth, partially multimedia content • Favourites list • App available in German or English The exhibition stretches over the entire Bode-Museum: Artworks from both continents are displayed on the two main floors through 22 juxtaposed pairs of artworks. About a hundred further European and African objects are displayed in a special gallery, illuminating six overarching topics. For each object pairing and group of works, the app offers interesting background information from the perspective of art, cultural history, and ethnology. It provides short introductions, as well as the possibility to delve deeper into the subject matter. The app can be updated after the exhibition’s opening, with more information and commentaries due to be posted, revealing yet more perspectives. You can choose time-based tours through the museum, explore the works on the basis of specific interests, or individually discover the exhibition and display contents on request as you stand before the objects. Every juxtaposition or group is located on a floor plan. In addition, you can save your favourites and comfortably learn more about them after your visit. Please feel free to send suggestions and comments to kommunikation@smb.spk-berlin.de. The exhibition and app have been generously funded by the Kuratorium Preußischer Kulturbesitz.
CHAPTER

You can use the CHAPTER app in the BERLIN GLOBAL exhibition at the Humboldt Forum Berlin, in the museum of the Oskar Schindler Enamel Factory in Krakow, in your classroom or seminar room, or simply at home to learn more about populism. The app is anything but a boring museum guide: with interactive, digital tasks that function like a mixture of computer games and social media, the app takes you to different objects in the museum in different chapters. The chapters deal with a range of different topics, such as sport, posters, music or the Berlin currywurst - and, of course, what these topics have to do with populism. The more of the chapters you play through, the better you will understand how populism works and how it fuels conflicts in our society. This will help you to recognise and question populist strategies in your own everyday life. You can use the app directly on site in the BERLIN GLOBAL exhibition at the Berlin City Museum in the Humboldt Forum in Berlin and the Oskar Schindler Enamel Factory museum in Krakow. You can also use the version for the Museum of London without being on site. Use is free of charge and the three versions are available in the respective national language and in English. The CHAPTER app was developed by the academic research project ‘Challenging Populist Truth-Making in Europe’ (CHAPTER for short) at the University of Tübingen, Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, University College London and Jagellonian University (Krakow) in collaboration with the development company Fluxguide in Vienna. A special feature of the CHAPTER app is that the content was created together with young pupils and students. The project was funded by the Volkswagen Foundation.
