Verdict
The clearest difference is ads: MacroBites at none against Blade City's shown. MacroBites also leads on rating (5.0 vs 4.8) and monetization model (free vs ad-supported). Blade City's advantage is update cadence (monthly vs every 7 months) and ratings volume (1.8K vs 1). On price, in-app purchases, device support and iOS requirement there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.
MacroBites holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 4.8. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Blade City has 1.8K ratings behind it against 1, so its average is the more settled of the two.
Blade City ships an update monthly, MacroBites every 7 months. The most recent releases landed on October 29, 2026 and October 5, 2026 respectively.
