Verdict
The clearest difference is rating: Animal Train at 4.2 against English Animals's 2.0. Animal Train also leads on ratings volume (4K vs 1). English Animals's advantage is iOS requirement (7.0 vs 15.6). On price, ads, in-app purchases and monetization model there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. English Animals sells 1 one-off in-app purchase and Animal Train sells 2 one-off in-app purchases. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.
Animal Train holds the better App Store score, 4.2 against 2.0. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Animal Train has 4K ratings behind it against 1, so its average is the more settled of the two.
