About

Underbeat

Features

Underbeat is a metronome that plays alongside your music instead of interrupting it β€” for practising an instrument, and for running. Start a track in Spotify or Apple Music, start Underbeat, and the click sits underneath it. No ducking, no pausing, no switching apps. FOR MUSICIANS Practise to the recorded track rather than to a click in isolation. The Music group starts at 80, 120 and 90 BPM, in 4/4 and 3/4, and a warm wooden click. FOR RUNNERS Hold a cadence over a playlist for the length of a long run. The Running group starts at 160, 170 and 180 steps per minute, with a rim click chosen to cut through music in open air without being loud. One engine underneath both β€” the same timing, the same mixing. What differs is the preset group you switch to, and each carries its own sound and its own volume. PRESET TEMPOS Switch tempo with one tap. A piece that moves between sections, or an interval that changes pace, should not need you to drag a dial mid-bar. TRUE BACKGROUND MIXING The click mixes with whatever else is playing, and keeps going with the screen off and the app in the background β€” ninety minutes and beyond, uninterrupted. LOCK SCREEN CONTROL Start, stop and change tempo from the Lock Screen and the Dynamic Island. Your hands stay on the instrument, or keep moving. TAP TEMPO Tap out a few beats and Underbeat takes the tempo from you. BUILT FOR TIMING The beat grid is rendered ahead of time and played from a single buffer, so the interval between clicks does not drift over a long session. Every other feature depends on that. Underbeat has no accounts, no adverts and no analytics. It collects nothing and sends nothing anywhere.
