Verdict

The call

The clearest difference is review sentiment: ASL at 100% against LearnSign's 50%. ASL also leads on iOS requirement (9.0 vs 18.0). LearnSign's advantage is rating (4.7 vs 4.3) and update cadence (monthly vs every 29 months). On price, ads, in-app purchases and monetization model there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.

LearnSign holds the better App Store score, 4.7 against 4.3. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: LearnSign has 44 ratings behind it against 6, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 100% of ASL's written reviews are positive against 50% of LearnSign's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

UpkeepUpdate frequency

ASL ships an update every 29 months, LearnSign monthly. The most recent releases landed on October 5, 2026 and September 21, 2026 respectively.
