日本战国时代（1467—1585年或1615年），一般指日本室町幕府后期到安土桃山时代的这段历史。最早出自甲斐国（今山梨县）大名武田信玄（1521年-1573年）所制《甲州法度之次第》第二十条，其开篇即写道“天下战国之上”。但酷爱中国兵法的武田信玄实际上是把中国的战国名称直接套用在日本，借此形容日本的政治格局。 此游戏以模拟日本战国时代为背景，玩家扮演一方诸侯以统一日本为游戏目的的模拟游戏。
