Lightning fast SSH terminal with remote file access. No other app fuses your SSH servers and iOS devices as well as Secure ShellFish. Tap Get and see for yourself. Terminal supports standard text editing gestures for selection, scrolling and copy/paste as well as custom gestures to send arrow keys and tabulator making shell entry and full screen editing with vim or emacs delightful. Bar above the keyboard makes it easy to type special keys and insert snippets. Select and drag filenames out of the terminal as actual files and drag files from other apps into the terminal to upload. Use built-in tmux support to persist terminal sessions if you lose Internet access, pick existing sessions with thumbnails and Handoff sessions between devices. Server file system is available in the Files app and recently accessed files and directories are cached to make them available when offline. Use apps like Textastic and iA Writer for a native editing experience working on your remote server files. Upload files or entire directories from the share sheet with minimal friction as the last destination directory for each kind of file is remembered or automate file transfers in the Shortcuts app. Connect to your Mac, Synology NAS and any other SSH server or create new Digital Ocean droplets right from the app. Secure ShellFish is useful as a free app and paying pro users can disable ads in the terminal, upload through the Files app and configure unlimited number of servers.

Remote Codetrol turns your iPhone, iPad, or Mac into a remote control for AI agents running on your Mac and Linux machines. Start with AI coding. Your Claude Code, Codex, or Ollama session runs on your Mac. Drive it from anywhere: review diffs, approve changes, leave inline comments, commit code. Save the commands you reach for daily as Quick Actions and trigger them in one tap. Then bring your private apps along. Anything you run on your Mac (or Linux) becomes a Managed Service that any paired device can reach. Think dev servers, admin panels, and dashboards. No tunnels or public DNS. No login screen to build. The trust comes from the pairing you already did. Sprinkle in widgets for the services you check most. A widget is a tile-shaped html view of a service: build status, deploy state, a job's progress at a glance. Tap one and the full app opens behind it. Layer in your notes and tasks. Capture your thoughts for a particular project next to the code. Dispatch your agent to finish tasks or have it create tasks to tackle later. Hand the rest to Bots. Schedule them. Trigger them from a webhook. Chain AI prompts, shell scripts, and human approval steps into multi-step pipelines, with branching logic, live progress, and a full audit trail. Reach your Mac from anywhere. Cloud Relay forwards encrypted traffic between your device and server when they're on different networks, and steps out of the way for a direct connection the moment they're on the same one. Mutual TLS on both ends. No accounts or VPN setup. No cloud storage. No tracking. All of this is made possible by a single pairing. Install the Remote Codetrol server on your Mac (or Linux) and pair the devices you want to reach it from. Each paired device gets the same access to your services, widgets, notes, tasks, and AI sessions, with no accounts and no cloud in between. Pair an unlimited number of Mac/Linux machines with a single phone or tablet. The UI integrates everything for you so you can work seamlessly across projects. Works with Claude Code, Codex, Copilot CLI, Gemini, MiniMax, GLM, and Ollama. Requires a Mac or Linux machine running the Remote Codetrol server. AI subscriptions not included.

Verdict
The clearest difference is ratings volume: SSH Client at 1.5K against Remote Codetrol's 3. SSH Client also leads on chart position (#19 vs unranked) and device support (4 vs 2). On price, rating, review sentiment and update cadence there is nothing between them.
Scored on Price · Rating · Positive reviews · Number of ratings · Update frequency · Ads · In-app purchases · Monetization · Best chart rank · Devices · Requires iOS
Both are free to download. SSH Client sells 3 in-app purchases, starting at $2.99 per month and Remote Codetrol sells 2 in-app purchases, starting at $9.99 per month. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.
On the App Store both sit at effectively the same score — 4.8 for SSH Client against 4.7 for Remote Codetrol. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: SSH Client has 1.5K ratings behind it against 3, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews are what separate them: 94% of SSH Client's written reviews are positive against 100% of Remote Codetrol's.
SSH Client ships an update weekly, Remote Codetrol every 8 days. The most recent releases landed on October 17, 2026 and October 1, 2026 respectively.
