Verdict
The clearest difference is in-app purchases: Workouts at none against Health Year's 2. Workouts also leads on ratings volume (20 vs 2) and device support (3 vs 1). Health Year's advantage is update cadence (every 4 days vs monthly). On price, rating, review sentiment and ads there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Health Year sells 2 one-off in-app purchases. Workouts asks for nothing beyond the download.
On the App Store both sit at effectively the same score — 5.0 for Workouts against 5.0 for Health Year. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Workouts has 20 ratings behind it against 2, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews split almost evenly too, at 88% and 88% positive.
Workouts ships an update monthly, Health Year every 4 days. The most recent releases landed on November 6, 2026 and October 30, 2026 respectively.
