Verdict
The clearest difference is rating: MapGenie at 4.6 against Help for Rust's 3.3. Help for Rust's advantage is update cadence (every 2 months vs every 48 months) and iOS requirement (12.0 vs 15.0). On price, review sentiment, ratings volume and ads there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Help for Rust sells 1 one-off in-app purchase and MapGenie sells 1 one-off in-app purchase. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.
MapGenie holds the better App Store score, 4.6 against 3.3. Both are backed by a comparable volume of ratings — 108 and 144 respectively. Written reviews complicate that: 60% of Help for Rust's written reviews are positive against 53% of MapGenie's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.
Help for Rust ships an update every 2 months, MapGenie every 48 months. Both last shipped on October 5, 2026.
