Verdict

The call

The clearest difference is price: warpAR at Free against Weird Type's $0.99. warpAR also leads on update cadence (every 5 days vs every 3 months) and review sentiment (100% vs 87%). Weird Type's advantage is ratings volume (814 vs 7) and iOS requirement (11.0 vs 14.5). On rating, ads, in-app purchases and monetization model there is nothing between them.

Weird Type holds the better App Store score, 4.9 against 4.7. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Weird Type has 814 ratings behind it against 7, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 87% of Weird Type's written reviews are positive against 100% of warpAR's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

UpkeepUpdate frequency

Weird Type ships an update every 3 months, warpAR every 5 days. The most recent releases landed on October 2, 2026 and June 10, 2026 respectively.
