Verdict
The clearest difference is review sentiment: Merge Explorer at 46% against Splats's 0%. Merge Explorer also leads on ratings volume (279 vs 7) and device support (3 vs 1). Splats's advantage is in-app purchases (none vs 4) and rating (4.4 vs 4.1). On price, update cadence and ads there is nothing between them.
Scored on Price · Rating · Positive reviews · Number of ratings · Update frequency · Ads · In-app purchases · Monetization · Best chart rank · Devices · Requires iOS
Both are free to download. Merge Explorer sells 4 in-app purchases, starting at $9.99 per month. Splats asks for nothing beyond the download.
Splats holds the better App Store score, 4.4 against 4.1. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Merge Explorer has 279 ratings behind it against 7, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 0% of Splats's written reviews are positive against 46% of Merge Explorer's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.
Splats ships an update every 2 weeks, Merge Explorer monthly. The most recent releases landed on October 7, 2026 and October 12, 2026 respectively.
