Verdict
The clearest difference is in-app purchases: ESS Boost at none against MPP's 1. ESS Boost also leads on ads (none vs shown) and review sentiment (100% vs 84%). MPP's advantage is ratings volume (1.3K vs 22) and rating (4.7 vs 4.5). On price and iOS requirement there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. MPP sells 1 one-off in-app purchase. ESS Boost asks for nothing beyond the download.
MPP holds the better App Store score, 4.7 against 4.5. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: MPP has 1.3K ratings behind it against 22, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 84% of MPP's written reviews are positive against 100% of ESS Boost's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.
MPP ships an update every 2 weeks, ESS Boost every 6 days. Both last shipped on October 24, 2026.
