Verdict
The clearest difference is ads: TownsFolk at none against Mighty Dice's shown. TownsFolk also leads on ratings volume (3.3K vs 222) and update cadence (every 2 weeks vs monthly). Mighty Dice's advantage is review sentiment (86% vs 73%) and iOS requirement (13.0 vs 15.0). On price, rating, in-app purchases and monetization model there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Mighty Dice sells 1 one-off in-app purchase and TownsFolk sells 2 one-off in-app purchases. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.
TownsFolk holds the better App Store score, 4.7 against 4.5. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: TownsFolk has 3.3K ratings behind it against 222, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 86% of Mighty Dice's written reviews are positive against 73% of TownsFolk's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.
Mighty Dice ships an update monthly, TownsFolk every 2 weeks. The most recent releases landed on October 24, 2026 and October 25, 2026 respectively.
