Files Protection keeps your private photos, videos, music and documents in one place, behind a passcode or Face ID. Your files stay on your device, inside the app. • Passcode lock: 4 or 6 digits, a custom number or letters, with Face ID or Touch ID. The app locks again every time you leave it, and after 10 wrong passcodes it stays locked for a while. • A passcode for any folder, with a security question in case you forget it. • Folders in your own colors, grid or list, sorting and filters, hidden files and folders. • Move, copy, rename, share, unzip, select many items at once, copy and paste with the clipboard. • Add files from Photos, the camera (photos and videos), your music library, other apps ("Open in…") and the built-in browser with downloads, bookmarks and history. • View photos, play videos, listen to music in the background with shuffle, repeat and a mini player, and open PDFs and office documents. • Recent files, and a Trash that keeps deleted items for 30 days. • Light, dark or automatic appearance, on iPhone and iPad. Files Protection is free with ads. One in-app purchase removes the ads.

SDK Paint takes a unique approach to iPad artwork creation, by stacking 5 layers onto the canvas for later use in 3D effects. By combining the artistic modes, the numerous filters, the shaders, and the tools, possibilities of what the finger or the Apple Pencil can paint onto the canvas are endless. A large hue color palette and retro game console palettes let artists easily choose exactly the color desired, and a Dropper tool makes identifying previous colors a simple task. The features don't just end with painting, either! Is the artwork ready show off? * Watch your creations in a gesture-controlled slideshow! * Export your art in a variety of formats and even share it online as a layer-based image that can be view as a depth-based 3D MPO image. If you have synced your art to http://gallery.sdkpaint.com, you can also view it on the free SDK Paint Viewer app for the Apple TV!

Verdict
The clearest difference is rating: Files Protection at 4.6 against SDK Paint Lite's 4.0. Files Protection also leads on ratings volume (602 vs 1) and update cadence (fortnightly vs every 2 months). SDK Paint Lite's advantage is review sentiment (100% vs 58%) and in-app purchases (none vs 1). On price and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Files Protection sells 1 one-off in-app purchase. SDK Paint Lite asks for nothing beyond the download.
Files Protection holds the better App Store score, 4.6 against 4.0. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Files Protection has 602 ratings behind it against 1, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 58% of Files Protection's written reviews are positive against 100% of SDK Paint Lite's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.
Files Protection ships an update fortnightly, SDK Paint Lite every 2 months. The most recent releases landed on October 26, 2026 and October 24, 2026 respectively.
