You can send push notifications to your iPhone by simply calling an HTTP API. Bark supports many advanced iOS push features, such as custom icons, notification grouping, custom ringtones, continuous alerts, critical alerts, and encrypted pushes. Bark does not consume device battery, as its core functionality relies on system push services and push extensions, and the app itself does not need to be running. Bark ensures your privacy and security with high reliability. Bark supports self-deploying the server, which can be deployed via Docker, Serverless, or Cloudflare Worker. The bark-server supports most operating systems, and you can also run it manually. The app is compiled and uploaded through Github Action, ensuring that the version you’re using is compiled from open-source code, without any modifications by anyone (including the author). Bark supports end-to-end push encryption with a custom key, ensuring that the push content is not accessed or leaked by the Bark server or Apple’s APNs server during transmission. The notification message history saved locally by Bark is also very secure. Using the NotificationServiceExtension, the push message is only stored on the device when the push is received. Echobell turns webhooks and emails into alerts you can't miss on iPhone and Apple Watch: a push notification, a Time-Sensitive alert that breaks through Focus, or a phone call that rings through Silent Mode. Give any tool your channel's webhook URL or email address. When a server goes down, a build fails, a price crosses your line or your AI agent needs you, your phone knows within seconds. THREE ALERT LEVELS • Push: a standard notification for routine events • Time-Sensitive: breaks through Focus so important alerts get seen • Phone call: rings like an incoming call, on iPhone and Apple Watch, and reads the alert aloud CONNECT ANYTHING • Every channel gets its own webhook URL and email address • Works with anything that can send an HTTP request or an email: Grafana, Prometheus Alertmanager, Uptime Kuma, UptimeRobot, Zabbix, TradingView, n8n, Zapier, Make, IFTTT, Home Assistant, GitHub Actions, cron jobs and your own scripts • AI agents: connect Claude Code, Codex, Cursor or any MCP client to Echobell's MCP server so it can notify you, or call you, when work finishes or it needs your input ONLY THE ALERTS THAT MATTER • Templates turn raw JSON into a clear title and message • Conditions filter the noise: alert only when status is "error", when a price passes 50,000, or within the hours you set • Links in each alert open the right dashboard, chart or runbook BUILT FOR TEAMS AND ON-CALL • Share a channel with one link • Every subscriber picks their own level: a call for whoever is on call, a push for everyone else PRIVATE BY DESIGN Notification content and history stay on your device. Our servers keep only what delivery needs: your account, channels and subscriptions. NEW IN 2.0 A guided start: a quick intro, a one-tap test notification and a short checklist that takes you from install to your first real alert. WHO USES ECHOBELL • Developers, DevOps and SRE teams watching servers, uptime, deploys and CI • Traders following crypto, stock and strategy price alerts • Home lab and smart home owners tracking sensors, backups and NAS • Anyone who needs one specific email to actually reach them Echobell is free to start. Echobell Premium unlocks phone call alerts and unlimited channels. Terms of Use: https://www.apple.com/legal/internet-services/itunes/dev/stdeula/ Privacy Policy: https://echobell.one/privacy

Verdict

The call

The clearest difference is ratings volume: Bark at 111 against Echobell's 3. Bark also leads on iOS requirement (15.0 vs 17.0). On price, rating, review sentiment and update cadence there is nothing between them.

CostPrice · In-app purchases · Ads · Monetization

Both are free to download. Bark sells 2 in-app purchases, starting at $2.69 per year and Echobell sells 2 in-app purchases, starting at $1.99 per month. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

ReceptionRating · Positive reviews · Number of ratings

Bark holds the better App Store score, 4.9 against 4.7. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Bark has 111 ratings behind it against 3, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 98% of Bark's written reviews are positive against 100% of Echobell's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

UpkeepUpdate frequency

Bark ships an update every 3 weeks, Echobell fortnightly. The most recent releases landed on November 2, 2026 and November 4, 2026 respectively.
