Malay is not a tonal language, does not distinguish gender (he/she/it), does not have grammatical tense (go/went/gone), It is now written using the Latin script, although an Arabic script also exists. The banknotes of Indonesia, Malaysia, Brunei and Singapore have the Malay script. Malay is the official language in these four countries.
