About

Kung Fu Atlas

Features

Kung Fu Atlas is a cultural and historical reference for readers interested in Chinese martial arts. It does not provide movement instruction, combat training, medical advice, fitness guidance or safety recommendations. Six collections • Overview explains how kung fu, wushu, traditional practice and modern competition overlap without treating them as identical. • Styles examines representative traditions through history, organizations, transmission and present-day contexts. • Heritage & Places connects intangible heritage, cultural venues and research questions through an embedded Apple map on iOS or a complete offline list. • People separates verifiable biography, oral tradition, screen images and later public memory. • Weapons & Objects approaches material culture through classification, surviving objects and modern display. • Myth Check tests popular claims against the limits of available evidence. How the material is organized The current content bundle contains 60 entries, 495 sections, 291 viewable bibliographic and institutional sources, 140 reading guides, 15 evidence-timeline events, 31 editorial place records and 185 unique visual records. Sources are available from the article view. Claims with limited or disputed evidence are labelled accordingly. Photographs, monuments, contemporary events, editorial illustrations and individual film frames are not presented as proof of origins, lineage or physical effectiveness. Evidence and maps The app draws on international organizations and government inventories, museum collections, university-press books, peer-reviewed research and current institutional rules. Oral tradition, popular culture and verifiable historical claims are kept distinct. On iOS, Apple MapKit shows 31 bundled editorial place records over an online Apple Maps basemap: 21 approximate points, 10 region-level points and no exact points. The app does not request or show the user's location, draw administrative boundaries or provide routes. Only a source-verified cultural venue with a public address can be handed to the system map after the user chooses that action. Offline reading and privacy Core articles, evidence, images and the place list are bundled for offline reading; the Apple Maps basemap requires a network connection. No account is required. Bookmarks and recent reading remain on the device. The app contains no advertising or third-party behavioral analytics SDK, and it does not request, display or transmit the user's location. External source links open only after the user selects them. Free access and full version All 60 entries can be opened without purchase. The first three authored sections of every entry are free, for 180 free sections in total. A one-time in-app purchase unlocks section 4 onward in every entry, plus complete source lists, evidence appendices and related entries—315 additional sections in total. It is not a subscription and the app contains no advertising. Purchases are linked to the Apple Account used for the App Store. After reinstalling, use the same account and select Restore Purchases to restore the full version. Kung Fu Atlas is for cultural and historical education only. It cannot replace professional instruction, medical advice, fitness guidance or safety advice.
