Verdict
The clearest difference is update cadence: Authority Counter at every 2 weeks against Terraforming Assistant's every 6 months. Terraforming Assistant's advantage is rating (4.9 vs 4.7) and ratings volume (28 vs 3). On price, review sentiment, ads and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.
Terraforming Assistant holds the better App Store score, 4.9 against 4.7. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Terraforming Assistant has 28 ratings behind it against 3, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 94% of Terraforming Assistant's written reviews are positive against 100% of Authority Counter's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.
Terraforming Assistant ships an update every 6 months, Authority Counter every 2 weeks. The most recent releases landed on September 23, 2026 and October 7, 2026 respectively.
