Verdict
The clearest difference is review sentiment: SGU Safe at 100% against Elsevier eBooks+'s 43%. SGU Safe also leads on monetization model (free vs freemium) and iOS requirement (9.0 vs 17.6). Elsevier eBooks+'s advantage is rating (4.7 vs 4.3) and update cadence (every 2 months vs every 13 months). On price, ads, in-app purchases and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.
Elsevier eBooks+ holds the better App Store score, 4.7 against 4.3. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Elsevier eBooks+ has 1.9K ratings behind it against 7, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 100% of SGU Safe's written reviews are positive against 43% of Elsevier eBooks+'s, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.
SGU Safe ships an update every 13 months, Elsevier eBooks+ every 2 months. The most recent releases landed on October 24, 2026 and October 25, 2026 respectively.
