Verdict
The clearest difference is review sentiment: MOE UAE at 56% against HKUST Alumni's 29%. MOE UAE also leads on ratings volume (211 vs 1) and update cadence (monthly vs every 3 months). HKUST Alumni's advantage is rating (5.0 vs 4.8) and iOS requirement (13.4 vs 15.0). On price, ads, in-app purchases and monetization model there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.
HKUST Alumni holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 4.8. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: MOE UAE has 211 ratings behind it against 1, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 29% of HKUST Alumni's written reviews are positive against 56% of MOE UAE's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.
HKUST Alumni ships an update every 3 months, MOE UAE monthly. The most recent releases landed on October 21, 2026 and October 24, 2026 respectively.
