Verdict

The call

The clearest difference is update cadence: i3DMovieMaker at every 2 weeks against MakeIt3D's every 20 months. MakeIt3D's advantage is rating (3.8 vs 3.5) and iOS requirement (11.0 vs 17.0). On price, review sentiment, ratings volume and ads there is nothing between them.

CostPrice · In-app purchases · Ads · Monetization

Both are free to download. MakeIt3D sells 1 one-off in-app purchase and i3DMovieMaker sells 1 one-off in-app purchase. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

ReceptionRating · Positive reviews · Number of ratings

MakeIt3D holds the better App Store score, 3.8 against 3.5. Both are backed by a comparable volume of ratings — 9 and 14 respectively. Written reviews complicate that: 67% of MakeIt3D's written reviews are positive against 71% of i3DMovieMaker's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

UpkeepUpdate frequency

MakeIt3D ships an update every 20 months, i3DMovieMaker every 2 weeks. The most recent releases landed on September 13, 2026 and September 23, 2026 respectively.
