Verdict
The clearest difference is review sentiment: Auth at 67% against Authenticator App #1's 13%. Authenticator App #1's advantage is rating (4.6 vs 4.2) and ratings volume (1.4K vs 5). On price, ads, in-app purchases and monetization model there is nothing between them.
Scored on Price · Rating · Positive reviews · Number of ratings · Update frequency · Ads · In-app purchases · Monetization · Best chart rank · Devices · Requires iOS
Both are free to download. Auth sells 5 one-off in-app purchases and Authenticator App #1 sells 3 in-app purchases, starting at $12.99 per month. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.
Authenticator App #1 holds the better App Store score, 4.6 against 4.2. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Authenticator App #1 has 1.4K ratings behind it against 5, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 67% of Auth's written reviews are positive against 13% of Authenticator App #1's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.
Auth ships an update every 4 months, Authenticator App #1 every 6 weeks. The most recent releases landed on October 29, 2026 and October 30, 2026 respectively.
