Want to play something quick and fun with friends when you party? 5 Second is a party game for groups, for those who can act under pressure. Rules are pretty straightforward. Players are asked a simple question and they have 5 seconds to come up with 3 answers before the buzzer rings. If the player doesn’t give all the answers before the time runs out, you do the punishment. Can you name 3 types of screams in 5 seconds? Can you name 3 hairy things in 5 seconds? Can you name 3 brands of beer in 5 seconds? The game includes normal cards, and also you can turn on sexy cards if you want to get your house party to the next level. Brainchain - the original associative thinking training game Our associative mind is a gigantic connected web of knowledge, experiences and memories. When we see or think of one thing it triggers a number of possible linked associations: some narrow, some broad. If we stay too narrow and ruminative, it can lead to more negative or anxious states. If we can be broader, our mood, outlook and creativity tends to improve. Brainchain is a fast-paced and fun game designed to develop greater breadth in our associative thinking through words. How to Play Create your 6 word brainchain Begin with the starter word. Type the first word you associate with it in less than 10 seconds. Repeats 4 more times, with the next typed word being associated to the previous one in the chain. Review, share, compare your unique brainchain. Rules Single words only Must be a common word, not a specific person, country or brand. English words only No abbreviations Tips The goal is to find a clearly associated word, not a randomly disconnected one. Type what comes to mind first, don’t try to overthink. It’s about training ourselves to associate through more interesting routes. Reflect on your brainchain to see how you travelled to the final word and where you could have made it a broader chain.

Verdict
The clearest difference is rating: 5 Second Rule at 4.7 against Brainchain's 4.0. 5 Second Rule also leads on ratings volume (10K vs 1) and update cadence (every 3 weeks vs every 4 months). Brainchain's advantage is monetization model (free vs free with in-app purchases). On price, ads, in-app purchases and iOS requirement there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. 5 Second Rule sells 1 in-app purchase, starting at $9.99 per 7 days and Brainchain sells 1 one-off in-app purchase. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.
5 Second Rule holds the better App Store score, 4.7 against 4.0. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: 5 Second Rule has 10K ratings behind it against 1, so its average is the more settled of the two.
5 Second Rule ships an update every 3 weeks, Brainchain every 4 months. The most recent releases landed on November 8, 2026 and November 3, 2026 respectively.
